Accommodations
In London, enjoy accommodations in a prime location that places you at the center of the city’s dynamic culture. With renowned landmarks and an array of tube stations within walking distance, you'll have the best of London right at your fingertips, making it easy to explore the city's rich history and vibrant neighborhoods.
In Edinburgh, stay in the heart of the city, surrounded by popular sites, historic landmarks, and the lively atmosphere of the Royal Mile. With convenient access to public transportation, exploring Edinburgh's rich heritage and stunning landscapes is a breeze.
Hotel accommodations primarily feature double occupancy, with occasional triple rooms available. Single accommodations can be arranged at an additional cost.

Group or Individual Travel Allowed

Option One - Group Travel

Travel together with faculty, staff and other participants from your CCSA program with our group travel. CCSA will purchase a airline ticket from select U.S. cities on your behalf. The airline cost will be included in your final bill from CCSA. In addition to the flight, you will also receive transport to/from the accommodation in the destination city and the airport.

You can check our currently available departure cities on our departures page CCSA highly recommends this option for those new to international travel.

Includes:
  • roundtrip air transportation from one of CCSA's designated U.S. departure cities.
  • roundtrip ground transportation between airport and the accommodation site.
  • CCSA faculty and staff to guide you through the immigration and customs process.

Option Two - Individual Travel

If you wish to make independent travel arrangements and depart from a city not listed or travel outside the program dates please choose INDEPENDENT TRAVEL from the selection below. You will book your own flights and arrange your own transportation to/from the airport and the accommodation site of the program. This is a great option for going early, staying late, or using airline miles to purchase tickets. We highly recommend participants not fly standby for these programs as a late arrival may negatively impact your grade.

Important Note for Independent Travelers: Please be aware that your check-in date may be up to 24 hours AFTER the program start date (program dates include travel time).

This class invites you on an exhilarating journey through the cultural heartbeat of London and Edinburgh, where you'll explore world-class museums, contemporary art galleries, and vibrant neighborhoods. Experience art in formal settings at renowned institutions like London's National Gallery, the British Museum, and Tate Modern, as well as Edinburgh's National Gallery of Art and National Museum.
But that's just the beginning! We'll dive into the contemporary art scene by venturing into local galleries, engaging with artists, and discovering art in unconventional settings. From captivating murals to talented street performers, you'll immerse yourself in a rich tapestry of local colors and flavors that bring these cities to life.
No prior art experience is necessary to participate, making this class accessible for students from all majors. You'll develop skills to analyze and interpret themes in art throughout history while drawing inspiration from an unparalleled range of visual experiences. Join us as we unlock the stories and emotions behind the art that shapes our world!

Finding Appalachia in Literary London and Scotland

Unlock the fascinating connections between British literary giants and modern Appalachian authors in this immersive class. You’ll compare timeless works by Dickens and Shakespeare with contemporary Appalachian classics by writers like Barbara Kingsolver and Ron Rash. While in London, explore the historical world of these iconic authors with visits to the British Museum, the Dickens Museum, and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.
In Scotland, we’ll dive deeper into Shakespeare’s creative adaptations of history and discuss the poetry of Robert Burns, whose influence echoes through Appalachian literature. You’ll experience Edinburgh’s literary heritage firsthand with a visit to the Writers’ Museum, making connections between two rich cultural traditions. This course is your chance to see how literature from across the Atlantic still shapes voices today!

This course invites you to explore the social and historical contexts behind literary classics like Beowulf, Dracula, Frankenstein, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and Harry Potter.
You'll deepen your appreciation for how great artists have interpreted these myths and legends while visiting the British Library, the British Museum, and the Scottish National Gallery. Get ready for thrilling adventures as you uncover the darker side of British culture with a Jack the Ripper tour, a visit to the dungeons of the Tower of London, and a ghost walk through the haunted streets of Edinburgh. Plus, immerse yourself in the world of Shakespeare by experiencing one of his tragedies at the Globe Theatre.

In this dynamic biomedical ethics course, you'll dive into pressing debates surrounding patients' rights, medical research standards, national responses to global pandemics, and the intricacies of doctor-patient relationships. Tailored for students in pre-health professions, health care administration, and global health services, this course offers a unique opportunity to explore these critical issues while experiencing London and Edinburgh's rich history and multicultural landscape.
As you visit iconic sites like St. Giles' Cathedral, St. Paul's Cathedral, and vibrant Chinatown, you'll immerse yourself in the cities' cultures. Engage with history at the Science Museum, the Old Operating Theatre, and the Florence Nightingale Museum, and explore the poignant stories at Highgate Cemetery and the Dover War Tunnels.
