For more than two decades, Dr. Ilona Szekely has shared her love of art with others. A career in art education has enabled her to communicate her enthusiasm in varied settings. She has published numerous articles, held art exhibitions, and participated in invited lectures throughout the U.S. and abroad. Her favorite experiences have been traveling with students throughout the United States, Spain and Italy. Ilona holds a BA from the University of Kentucky, an M.A from Teachers College Columbia in New York City and a Ph.D. from the department of Educational Policy Studies and Evaluation at the University of Kentucky. Currently, she teaches Art Education, and Art Appreciation at Eastern Kentucky University, and is the President of the Kentucky Art Education Association. She lives and makes art in Lexington, Kentucky with her husband and fourteen-year-old daughter Emilie.

This class invites you on an exhilarating journey through the cultural heartbeat of London and Edinburgh, where you'll explore world-class museums, contemporary art galleries, and vibrant neighborhoods. Experience art in formal settings at renowned institutions like London's National Gallery, the British Museum, and Tate Modern, as well as Edinburgh's National Gallery of Art and National Museum.
But that's just the beginning! We'll dive into the contemporary art scene by venturing into local galleries, engaging with artists, and discovering art in unconventional settings. From captivating murals to talented street performers, you'll immerse yourself in a rich tapestry of local colors and flavors that bring these cities to life.
No prior art experience is necessary to participate, making this class accessible for students from all majors. You'll develop skills to analyze and interpret themes in art throughout history while drawing inspiration from an unparalleled range of visual experiences. Join us as we unlock the stories and emotions behind the art that shapes our world!
