Fantasy, Myth & Legend: London & Edinburgh

Photo of Lewis Bernard

My name is Bernard (Ber’ nard) Lewis. I teach primarily English and Humanities. My undergraduate degrees are in English and Music from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. My MA is in English Studies from Murray State University. I've taught something most of my life, including piano, voice, Sunday School, retail seminars, etc.

My wife Annita and I have been married for 53 years (quite happily, I might add). We have two children, four grandchildren, one great-granddaughter (and another great - ? on the way), and a spoiled rotten dog. I listen to all kinds of music (well, not rap, actually), play the piano, and write a little music myself. I enjoy reading, art, construction projects, and commercial design. Traveling, cooking, and eating are passions!

I have led Education Abroad programs in both London and Italy.

Course Description:

Expand your worldview as you experience the world of "Fantasy, Myth, and Legend" in two of our most iconic cities: London and Edinburgh. This course invites you to explore the social and historical contexts behind literary classics like Beowulf, Dracula, Frankenstein, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and Harry Potter.
You'll deepen your appreciation for how great artists have interpreted these myths and legends while visiting the British Library, the British Museum, and the Scottish National Gallery. Get ready for thrilling adventures as you uncover the darker side of British culture with a Jack the Ripper tour, a visit to the dungeons of the Tower of London, and a ghost walk through the haunted streets of Edinburgh.
