PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Experience the holiday season in two of the most exciting cities in the British Isles, seeing them through the lens of courses crafted to take advantage of these wonderful learning environments.
Join the CCSA London/Dublin Program, scheduled for December 26 through January 8, to investigate the worlds not just of Dickens and Joyce but two vibrant centers of commerce, culture, and the arts. As part of itineraries matched to specific courses listed, two day-trips, one in England and one in Ireland, are also planned. Previous years’ destinations have included sites such as Bath & Stonehenge, Canterbury & Dover and Stratford & Warwick in England; and Glendalough & Wicklow County in Ireland. A ticket for one theatrical production is also included for each course.
By combining this intensive study abroad experience with course-specific directed study activities preceding and/or following the travel portion of the program, students may earn three semester hours of college credit.
Please carefully read Program Details for additional information pertinent to all CCSA programs.

ADVERTI SING/PUBLIC RELATIONS/INTEGRATED MARKETING/MEDIA STUDIES
The Sport of Branding: Product Identity, Sports & Popular Culture
Examine how public relations, advertising and other promotional methods use links to sports and other aspects of popular culture to construct brand images in England and Ireland. We will discuss how sport is used as a vehicle to promote other products and explore the methods used to promote professional and amateur sport. The class will tour sports venues such as Olympic Park, Chelsea Football Club, Wimbledon and Croke Park. We will also meet with advertising agencies to discuss branding and visit popular culture museums to deeper our understanding of the relationships between culture and brand identities.
Prerequisite: completion of introductory course in related subject—advertising, public relations, strategic communications or marketing

ENGLISH
The Great House in British Fiction
Have you ever fancied yourself lady or lord of a large estate? Can you imagine what it would be like to live in a house with more rooms than you can count or even recall? What might it have been like to be one of the countless servants responsible for cleaning those rooms and waiting on the owners and their guests from early in the morning until late at night? In this course we will explore these issues—as well as those of gender, sexuality, design and architectural history, and social class—by first reading novels and then experiencing all the richness of their settings firsthand.
(3 cr. hrs., UD, Dr. Joshua Adair, [jadair1@murraystate.edu], Murray State University)
In the Footsteps of Giants: A Literary Pilgrimage
Come walk in the footsteps of two “giants” of English Literature: Geoffrey Chaucer and James Joyce. Explore the lanes of London as we read The Canterbury Tales and visit Westminster Abbey, The Tower of London, Windsor Castle and Canterbury Cathedral. Our pilgrimage then wends its way to Dublin as we explore the world of James Joyce, Ireland’s greatest writer. Walk the streets of Dublin, and visit monuments and pubs made famous in Dubliners and Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man.
Prerequisite: one semester of composition
(3 cr. hrs., LD/UD, Rev. Michael A. Williams, S.J., Ph.D., [mwilliams@shc.edu], Spring Hill College)
THEATRE
Exploring Theatre in London & Dublin
Visit London and Dublin while experiencing some of the best theatre in the world. Walk along the Thames, hear the bloody stories and see the crown jewels at the Tower of London, view the Egyptian mummies in the British Museum, take backstage tours of several theatres in London and enjoy two ancient cities at the heart of the holiday season. Hustle and bustle with the locals, while you learn firsthand what makes theatre in the “West End” and beyond so exciting.
