Travel Plans for Volcanic Ash for 2010 Summer Programs

posted May 25, 2010 9:31 AM by Joe Woolley

To all CCSA participants traveling to Great Britain and Ireland this Summer,

Many of you have been contacting CCSA about the Icelandic volcano eruptions and resulting ash cloud, causing airports across Europe to periodically close.  We have been monitoring the situation continuously over the last month and will continue to do so. Should the situation near a program travel date, we will update program leaders, participants, and CCSA campus representatives.

Currently all airlines are asking travelers to show up and travel as normal, even if the destination airport in Europe is closed. It is imperative that travelers get to the trans-Atlantic departure city so flights can be sent as soon as airports open. Consequently, you should all report to your respective airports at the time designated in your final letter/email you will receive from us shortly. Please make every effort to be on time, even early if possible.

CCSA staff are in the office, ready to answer phone calls and monitoring the situation. Should you experience difficulty reaching the airport, please call the CCSA office number at 1-800-319-6015, as we have contact information for faculty at the airport.

To quote the Irish blessing, “May the wind be always at your back.” blowing the ash far away.
