Early Ireland Departure and Volcanic Ash Situation

posted May 16, 2010 5:20 PM by Joe Woolley
CCSA is aware of the Iceland volcano eruptions and resulting ash clouds causing delays and closures across Europe. The Early Ireland Program departs tomorrow and here is an update on travel for that program.

Because of the volatile nature of this situation, since it is weather dependent, our best advice is to follow what the airlines recommend, which right now is to report to the airport at the time scheduled.  The Delta website says that our transatlantic flight is still scheduled to depart on time tomorrow evening.   It is likely that even if our transatlantic flight shows as delayed by the time our flights leave from Nashville and Cincinnati tomorrow, Delta will want to send passengers for that flight to Atlanta, our transit city, so that they will be ready to depart as soon as clearance to do so is given.

Furthermore, as Delta indicates in the statement below from its website, Delta will work with passengers whose flights are delayed or cancelled to get them to their destination; in our case, we will work with Delta should this occur, rather than having our participants work individually with the airline.   Should our group be delayed (by cancellation or serious flight delay) at the transit city, Atlanta, we will work, if necessary and possible, to provide overnight housing for our group should the airline recommend that passengers on delayed flights be dispersed for the night or reschedule those on cancelled flights for departures the following day.

As you can see from the attached link from the Clare County Herald in Ireland, although some but not all airports in Ireland, including Dublin, are closed, the situation is expected to improve throughout the day and evening tomorrow:
